Buffalo Grove, Ill. (September 5, 2007) - IPA Charities has contributed $1,000 to the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago. In doing so, IPA’s Managing Director, John R. Burgess, was welcomed into the Clara Barton Society’s Mabel Boardman Circle.

The Clara Barton Society, named after the founder of the American Red Cross, honors donors that further Barton’s humanitarian values by giving a substantial contribution to the American Red Cross.

Mabel Boardman, for whom the Mabel Boardman Circle was named, served the Red Cross from 1901 through 1944. Upon Barton’s retirement, Boardman became the second leader of the American Red Cross. In her role as leader, Boardman worked to revitalize, expand and grow the Red Cross to include programs such as Red Cross Home Service, the Nurses Aide Corps, the Motor Corps and the Gray Ladies. However, one of Boardman’s most significant contributions was helping to make the American Red Cross a truly national organization. By consistently working as a volunteer, Boardman strived to spread the mission of the Red Cross by encouraging volunteerism nationwide.

"Today, your gift to the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago continues Ms. Boardman’s legacy of service by helping us to care for your community in times of crisis, and providing us with the resources needed to be prepared for the unexpected," said Heidi L. Mucha, Director of Development, Operations, for the American Red Cross’ Chicago chapter. "Please accept our sincerest gratitude, as none of our vital services would be possible without the thoughtful support of donors like you."
